Each year they have a Swiss Days 5K in Santa Clara. Courtney decided she wanted to do it. Her friend, Emma, and her mom dressed up as cows (Swiss Days is all about cows). It was hilarious but Courtney did a great job and had a good run.
Courtney wanted to redecorate her room. She has a wall that she wanted a quote on, so our neighbor cut the vinyl for us.
Then we had her picture from this season frames and found the old picture from when she first started playing when she was 4 years old. I think it turned out really cute!
The mom of one of the Seniors has been battling breast cancer for years so they have a pink game every year to honor in October to honor breast cancer survivors and fighters. Courtney was thrilled to wear pink to honor Aunt Lisa! We wore our "Team Lisa" hats to the game to show our support.
They had a great game ad it was fun to watch them in their pink.
Here is Courtney with her best friend, Sammie.
The pink swag. They got to keep their pink uniform so that was fun.
Courtney loves to camp out and her YW leaders know it so they planned a campout with her in mind. She was so excited! They went to a cabin in Pine Valley. The leaders stayed in the cabin while the girls slept in tents outside. They played games, ate good food, and had a lot of fun. She has some great leaders who are interested in helping the girls learn and do things they want to do. And these are a fun group of girls.
I'm sure it was a crazy car ride with these girls!
They played a game with shaving cream and cookies. It looks hilarious.
The team had 2 races in Cedar City, one was the regular season race and the other was the state championship race. This is the first Cedar race.
Ethan was on a nice bike that we had borrowed from one of the coaches on the team and it made him so fast. Ethan finished 25th with quick lap times!!
However, he smashed his foot against a rock during one of the laps and it was swollen. We took him to the doctor but they didn't find anything wrong with it, YEAH! He did have to ice it a lot for a couple of days to help with the swelling.
The kids had team pics for mountain biking. Last year in the mountain bike picture, Ethan was on the far left side. When we looked in the SCHS yearbook for last year, HE WAS CUT OFF!! So this year, he decided to get closer to the middle so he wouldn't be cut out.
This is the entire team, Ethan is on the back row, fourth from the left next to the guy in the blue hat. Coury is on the front row, fifth from the right.
This is the group that Ethan rode with and his coaches. He is the tall one on the back row. Really, you can't miss him.
This is Courtney's ride group with the coaches. They were amazing ladies. Courtney didn't get to ride often but they were so inclusive to her when she was able to go. Courtney is on the back row on the right side.
These are our GRiT riders (Girls Ride Together). These are the girls from our team. Courtney is on the front row, second from the left.
One night I had a mom text me and ask which of Ethan's friends hadn't been asked to Sadie Hawkins yet. It's a girl's choice dance. I told her that Ethan hadn't been asked and she was surprised. The next day she told me that the girl who was going to ask Ethan wasn't going to be able to go to the dance so someone else was going to ask him.
A day later there was a knock on the door and Ethan found this...
I thought it was really cute! So we brainstormed and decided to make cookies that looked like fish hooks and answer her. This is how it turned out.
He drove over with Courtney and made her put it on the front door for him. She can run fast!!
Every Wednesday night after practice there is a team night dinner. It's fun for the girls because they get closer as a team and they also get to hang out without being on the field. The moms sign up to help and host the dinner. I helped with a couple so I got to see how they are put together.
It's funny to watch the hierarchy on the team. The captains get their food first, then the seniors, then the juniors, then the freshman, and lastly the managers get their food. The freshmen don't even get up to get into line until later. The girls are fun to be around.
Richfield is a tough race. Last year it was really powdery and hot. This year it wasn't so dusty but it was still a rough ride. Ethan worked himself hard and Courtney felt good about the race because she was able to lap one of the other girls on our team!
It's fun to watch them support each other.
This is before Ethan started to race:
This is afterward when Courtney met him at the finish line:
This is Courtney's "game face" before her bike race. She looks MEAN! And she did a great job passing other riders.
Waiting for awards to start.
Winning 1st place!! Ethan is in the middle on the right as they are walking up. He is still in his kit. In the other pictures, Courtney is in the middle standing on the podium holding the trophy and Ethan is in the middle crouching on the front row.
This is our winning team!!
Here are the videos:
Courtney and Ethan like to use each other as standing posts.
Ethan's first lap at Richfield. He almost made the guy behind him crash, haha!
