Ankle progress

Courtney went to the trainer on Monday morning to start her recovery.  She refused to use crutches so she was hobbling around the school.  I was worried that she would hurt her ankle even more but the trainer said he was glad to see her walking on it.  What do I know?

On Monday (day 4), the trainer did a deep sports massage, and the next day the bruise was HUGE!  I was a bit worried.  Courtney said it hurt really badly but it was supposed to make it heal faster.  The next morning (day 5), the bruise had cleared and the blood had pooled in her foot and toes.

The trainer put Courtney on an exercise bike to keep her ankle moving and gave her some exercises to do at home.  She also was walking around on it to keep things moving. He also used a muscle shocker to keep her muscles working while she is recovering.  Courtney said it didn't hurt, it was just uncomfortable.

On day 6, Courtney's toes were really purple along with the side of her foot. But it was starting to feel better.

This is day 9.  She is still swollen but she is starting to heal and the trainer is happy with her progress.

The trainer told her that if she keeps limping that she will always limp because her muscle memory will train her to walk that way.  So she has been working on walking normally and she can do it, but there is a slight hitch in her giddy-up.  She didn't play in the game on Tuesday, but she is always on the sidelines to cheer her team on.

You can see her (#4) walking on the right hand side and she is almost normal.  The trainer is going to have her try running on Wednesday to see how she does.

Should I be offended?

There is an iconic picture in our family of Courtney.  When she was 3, we went to Heber Valley to Uncle David's cabin for Christmas.  One day we went sledding.  I love to sled!  I was excited to take Courtney down the first time and I had a blast.  I thought Courtney had a lot of fun also until I saw the picture Grandpa Pack took.  The next day, we went sledding again and Courtney seemed to love it although there aren't any pictures of the second day of her sledding with me.  I think I lost the privilege.

I always use the bottom right picture to show perspective.  From my perspective, sledding was a blast. But from Courtney's perspective, it was a nightmare!

Cute soccer girl

Courtney has been on a soccer team since she was 4 years old.  We were smart and her jersey number was always the same as her age.  So we can tell how old she was by her number.

The picture on the left is her first soccer picture at age 4 and the right is 10 years later.

We need to find the ponytail holders again and have Courtney take a "now" picture with them in so they totally match.  What a cute soccer player.

Ouch!

The new coach is holding Friday practices, which is something new this season.  I got a text from Courtney at the end of practice letting me know that she had sprained her ankle.  She didn't tell me how bad it was sprained.  I asked her if she needed me to come and get her or if she could drive her car.  She told me that Sammie would bring her home and then asked for the crutches to be ready when she got home.  Oh no!

You can't see the swelling too easily on this picture but it's her right foot (the top one) that is sprained.  The trainer said it is a "high ankle sprain" and would take 3-5 weeks to heal from.  So she is out for a few games.

The trainer will work with her each day during the week to try and get her back to playing as fast as he can.  We had to ice it on and off all evening and for the entire weekend.  Poor Courtney.  She doesn't do well with being hurt or inactive.  This is going to be interesting.

First Region 10 game

The Utah High School Athletic Association revised the regions for the 2021-2023 sport seasons. So, instead of being in Region 9, Snow Canyon is now in Region 10.  They added in the Utah Arts Academy (formerly Tuacahn High School) and they took out Canyon View High School.  I don't think that Utah Arts Academy will be having any sports but they are on the list.  Cedar is the only school that isn't in the St George area so, besides Cedar, the away games are just across town.

Realignment Information

The girls had their first game on August 19th against Desert Hills High.  It was an away game but they are just across town so it wasn't a big deal.  Grandma and Grandpa Pack came to see Courtney play and we loved that they came to watch!

Courtney is a JV starter as a forward.  It took until Junior year but she is finally taller than the girl she is guarding! ;) It was a tough game.  SCHS lost but they played hard and it was only their first region game.

Jersey

Courtney loves Buster Posey and so we got her a jersey for her birthday.  It was coming from the LA area and, for some reason, it took FOREVER to get to us.  It finally got here and Courtney was thrilled! She couldn't wait to try it on.

I think she likes it. (Again, I love how expressive she is when she gets gifts.)

The hat is the final touch.

Now it's time to go to a Giants game! We wish!

Team Night

Every Wednesday night the girls have team night.  Moms volunteer to host the dinner and help with the food.  This year, the team is a lot larger than it has ever been.  I thought there were a lot of girls to feed last year but this year is crazy!  The moms usually post pictures of the girls, otherwise, I don't see anything although Courtney takes pics.

Courtney is on the right in the blue striped shirt.

Courtney is 2nd from the left.

As you can see, it was taco salad and Courtney just has salad on her plate.  She is hilarious because she loves salads but doesn't like a lot of things on them that make the salad good.  Oh well, at least she is eating something green, right?

SCHS team pictures

Team pictures were at Tonaquint Park.  The coach let them out of practice a little early so the girls could go home and primp. Courtney took Sammie with her so they would be together.  They are the cutest of best friends!

Courtney naturally tips her head to the side.  When she had her driver's license picture, the woman kept telling her to tip her head the other way so it would be straight up.  The woman said that all the teenage girls do it. ;)

She looks so grown up without her braces and with her sun bleached blonde hair from summer soccer.

Courtney was thrilled she was able to be on the back row!!  She is the 5th from the right.  The JV coaches are on the left (the woman was Courtney's very first club coach when she played for Galaxy) and the Varsity coach is on the right.

Courtney and Sammie always take a friend pic and it always turns out cute.

I photoshopped her hair so there weren't flyaways.  It turned out well.

The junior soccer players. Courtney is 3rd from the left.

Smoky sun

There are fires in Nevada and California so we have been getting smoke.  That means that the sun is red when it rises in the morning.  This picture doesn't show the smoke as being bad, but it shows the red sun.

First day of SCHS

College doesn't start for another week but Courtney started her classes at Snow Canyon High School.  She only has Financial Literacy and Seminary on B days at SCHS so she didn't have to go on the real first day.  I wanted a picture before she left.

We went to the usual spot to take a picture but Courtney was distracted by a baby lizard.  She had to pause to check it out.

Cute Junior!

Courtney is 16 years old!!

Courtney turns 16 years old! That is absolutely crazy! We had to embarrass her by decorating outside so everyone knows it's her big day.

Courtney got her traditional Texas donut for breakfast.

Courtney got to open her presents from us and she got this shirt and a new iPhone:  (she had another present that was coming but it was late)

Courtney's learner's permit was going to expire.  She finished her driving hours and passed her test with the teacher.  We made an appointment (at the DMV in Cedar City because the one in Washington County was full) and then we made a trip to Cedar.  I can't believe how different she looks in just one year!

She got to drive all by herself for the first time and thought it was weird.  I'm sure she will quicky get used to it.

A lot of fun friends posted birthday wishes to her.  She is loved!

Courtney's cute friends bought her some shoes that she has been wanting forever.  They think the shoes are ugly but they pooled their money together to get her something she really wanted.  Last month, I got texts asking me what Courtney's shoe size was and they told me what they were planning.  Courtney was thrilled and the shoes fit beautifully.

They are debating whether Slides or Crocs are better.  Funny girls!
