Cute kids

I know I have published these before but I thought I would put them together. Cute kids!

Soccer time

Ethan has finally come to realize that he only has to give Courtney a few minutes of his time and then she will stop bugging him. Lately he has been goalie for her when she gets bored and wants to play soccer. He calls it "being her catcher" because she kicks it into his hands a lot. They are hilarious to watch.

He is a pretty good goalie except when she kicks it to the side of the goal and he has to chase after it.

Ethan's suit

So this is the form of peer pressure that Ethan caves under...getting a suit. 😉 Some of the ym have been giving him a hard time so he wanted to get a suit. He is tall and gangly so we had to get it special ordered. It came in and he looks great! His tie even matches Courtney's dress. What cute kids!

State Championships

We had the mountain bike state championships in St. George this year and it was so fun! They had races on Friday and Saturday. Ethan's race was early (8:30 am) on Saturday. He did great! This is our home course where the kids race all the time so they know it.

Ethan had a fast first lap, a slower second lap, then he made up time with a fast third lap. It was awesome to watch.

Ethan's start (it's super dusty so look for the green helmet):
Ethan's finish:

One of his best friends also rides with the team. Ethan had finished and we were waiting for his friend to come in when we saw him about a mile off, pushing his bike. We watched for a while and then Ethan handed me his bike and took off. He ran to meet his buddy and then ran beside him yelling encouragement to him while he finished. It was cool to see and is exactly what mountain biking is about. It is such an inclusive sport!

The awards ceremony was that night at the football field at Snow Canyon. We went early and sat all as a team (the kids sat on the grass but the parents sat in the bleachers). It was windy but it was a great night as SCHS Mountain Bike Team was awarded the State Championship for division 2!! We were so excited!

Here are the videos from that night:

Now, we just have to get the high school to acknowledge us and put the trophies in the trophy case and hang a state championship banner in the gym. Baby steps, baby steps...

Courtney's finger

I am not a huge fan of football during PE. It's not that I don't like football, it's that BOTH of our kids have fractured a finger during PE football.

Courtney cane home from school yesterday saying that her finger hurt. I put a splint on it and gave her some Tylenol. When she woke up this morning and we unwrapped it, her finger was purple and bent. So I made an appointment for her with the doctor, checked her out of school a bit early, and went to see what was up.

After X-rays, the doctor thought it was just jammed. He took our splint and taped her two fingers together. But before we left he decided to check the X-ray one more time. The tech had been able to look at it and reported that there was a fracture. So off came the tape and on went an elaborate, cast-link removable splint. He gave her a doctor's note to get out of orchestra because her left hand now only has 2 fingers poking out.

We go back in 3 weeks to check her progress and get rid of the splint. It's nice because it is one you can easily remove to shower.

The joys! Yes, she is ok her soccer uniform because she had a game tonight. We may have to wrap the splint in more ace bandages o make it "softer" if the ref deems it too hard.

By the way, it's the middle finger so when she had it wrapped it looked like she was flipping everyone off. 😜

No violin for her for 3 weeks.

Courtney's weird nose

Courtney was making a weird noise from her nose so, of course, we had to video tape it to show the world.  Enjoy...

New vacuum

Yes, it's sad, but I got SO EXCITED when we got a new vacuum.  I did a bunch of research and got one that I was going to be happy with.  I was gone when it came so Courtney put it together and was just as excited as I was. ;)

When I got home, we figured out how to use it, I know, it isn't brain surgery, and then we went to use it on her bedroom.  And this is what we saw after finishing in her room...

GROSS!!  Our other vacuum wasn't working very well, apparently.  I think I'm going to have fun with my new toy. ;)

Sleepy Courtney

Bryan and I were up late one night and noticed that Courtney's door was still open and her light was on.  When we went to check on her, this is what we saw...

She must have been exhausted to fall asleep with the light on.  Cute girl!

Courtney pics

Since we missed the pop-up photo shoot earlier in the month, the photographer asked me to set up a time when she could do one that we would be able to attend.  It was fall break, the kids were out of school, and soccer had been canceled, so we scheduled it for Thursday night.  I let a friend know so she would also have her kid's pics taken to check out the photographer.

She wanted to play with the lighting and the field that is right by our house so we made the 2-minute jaunt over to the field to have pics done.  I think they turned out fabulous!  Our soccer team doesn't have team pictures so I am trying to schedule some for the whole team so the photographer can take them.  She is really good and fast....and we got all this for $5!

SCHS Mountain Bike Team

This is the official team photo taken in Snow Canyon State Park.  I think it turned out really well,  We had individual pics taken of Ethan but we haven't gotten the files for those yet.  I'll share them when I get them.

Ethan is on the left with his arms folded.  And no, that isn't a girl he is standing next to.  It's his best friend who has long hair. ;)

Kneaders

Courtney has a friend whose mom took them to the temple really early one morning and then they dropped by Kneaders for some "temple toast."  If any youth drop by Kneaders on weekday mornings before 8 am, and they have been to the temple to do baptisms, they give them free all-you-can-eat french toast.  A pretty great deal, if you ask me!  And a great tradition to have!

Her friend's mom sent me this pic:

Cedar City mountain bike race

Ethan and Bryan went to Cedar City for the mountain bike race.  It was rainy and miserably cold.  The parents had sent/brought soups to keep everyone warm and they had a fire pit in the pitzone.  But it was so cold and bad conditions that they shortened the races (except for the varsity).  Courtney and I got there in time to see Ethan before he had to go line up.  I gave the coaches a blanket for him to use afterward so he would be able to warm up.  Then Courtney and I went to the starting line to watch him start.

There were a lot of umbrellas that the parents were trying to keep the riders dry with, so I didn't get too many good pics of him.  But he is the one in the bright green helmet.

There he goes!

Courtney had another soccer game in St. George so we had to get going so she would be there on time.  I felt sad that we couldn't see him cross the finish line, but it was so cold that I wasn't too sad and I knew that Bryan would take great care of him.

Another mom sent me pics.  This is Ethan finishing up his lap.  His race went from 3 laps down to 1 lap so he had to go fast!  There wasn't time to pace yourself when you were only doing 4.6 miles.

Look at how muddy he is!

Snow Canyon took first place which means they swept the season!  That is very exciting.  And Ethan did well on his ride.  So it was a good day.

Rainy soccer game

Courtney had a soccer game on October 6th.  It was supposed to be in Cedar City but ended up being changed to Parowan.  It was early in the morning, it was raining, and it was cold!  Courtney and I drove to the game while Ethan and Bryan went to the mountain bike race in Cedar City.

We were the first ones to the field because we left early enough to drive super slow.  I hate driving in the rain and it made it worse that it was cold outside.  I hydroplaned a couple times but I wasn't going too fast so it wasn't too bad.

It rained all through the game and the girls were freezing.  The parents stood under a shade tent so we could stay dry.  It was Conference time so I listened to the session on my phone while I watched her game.  The 2-hour schedule was announced so I didn't watch too much of the game between 10-10:30.

But the girls won and they played really well for being so cold and freezing.  It was miserable and we hadn't brought any dry clothes for Courtney.  We were headed up to Ethan's race to see the start so Courtney decided to stay wet until we finished that.

Go United FC!

Again?

This is how we feel in our house....

Weird sky

On our way home from the pop-up photo shoot that wasn't, the sky was crazy so Courtney took a pic.

Pics by Me!

There is a photographer in town who does "pop up photo shoots."  For $5, she will take 5-10 pics of you, edit them, and send them to you.  It's in the hopes that you will pass along the info and she will get business from you and your friends.

The catch?  You have to see her post on Facebook and she only puts the post on 30 minutes before the shoot begins.  I happened to catch one and Courtney had some free time, so we decided to run and try to find the photographer.  Well, it started raining on our way over and she had already left.

We were bummed but decided to see what kinds of photos my phone could take.  I think we got some cute ones for a super old iphone!
