Halloween

Despite the pandemic, we still had the neighborhood Halloween party.  It was toned down (just dinner and chatting with neighbors) but we were able to see people which was really nice!  We went around the block to eat soups (it's always potluck so each street has an assignment to bring a particular food), hotdogs, rolls, chips, etc.  Then we chatted with people before going back home to meet the trick-or-treaters.

We didn't have as many kids come to our house as we usually do but we still went through a bunch of candy.  Courtney decided to go with a couple of friends to some houses to get candy.  It seems like everyone (including us) went for the good candy - chocolate.

Courtney came home with a nice haul and the Halloween Fairy the next day brought her cash for her candy (because the Halloween Fairy wasn't aware that Courtney would be trick-or-treating).

Soccer End of the Year Banquet

They made it through the season!!  This was amazing because of all the Covid cancellations going on.  But the SCHS soccer team made it and they wanted to celebrate.  The team mom decided to have a little dessert get together outside one night so the girls could have closure.

It was really cold and windy that night but we got together at the park by the little league field.  The girls ate the desserts brought by the families (store-bought) and then the coaches gave out gifts to their wives and also the other coaches.

Then the head coach made an announcement we didn't see coming - he is going to retire from coaching.  So next year there will be a new coaching staff.  It will be an interesting year next year but we are excited to see what is going to happen.

Our Missionary

Here are some pictures of Ethan on his mission.

Ethan needs a haircut.

Frisbee golf in the snow (and shorts).

This is a pic of his area with the smoke from the fires in the background.

Mountain Biking State Championships

The Mountain Biking State Championships were being held in St George this year so we decided to run out to see the course.  Bryan and Ethan have ridden the course before but this was going to be a longer race so we weren't sure how it was going to be going.

They did a great job with the course.  You could watch a bunch of the trail and see the riders start and also come through the finish line. We stayed long enough to watch the start of the Varsity Boys race.  It was so dusty but it was fun to watch them start the race.

The Snow Canyon team didn't end up winning State, which is a bummer, but they will work on it and see what they can do next season.

Beautiful Ivins

I saw this picture on my friend's Facebook page and make a copy.  We live in such a beautiful place.

Mole Day

They had Mole Day at Success Academy.  Courtney designed a poster, wore a Mole Day shirt, and we sewed a mole all for her to take for credit.  She had a fun time because she and Hayley wore matching shirts.

Courtney's Pumpkin

Courtney went to a young women's activity where they painted pumpkins for Halloween.  Courtney loves dinosaurs and did a great job putting them on her pumpkin.

New Cleats

Courtney saved her birthday money, added to it the money she earned from mowing Grandpa's lawn, and bought some new cleats.  She got them from the Nike store on clearance so she was happy about her deal. She was so excited!

She has teeth!

Courtney is missing a couple of teeth (the ones next to her top front teeth).  This really isn't a shock because both Bryan and I are missing teeth. She has wished to have fake teeth for a while and she finally had enough space for them to be put in.

We drove to downtown St George to buy her 2 teeth (it was a sketchy place that wasn't too clean but the teeth look great).  We bought them a while ago and had them in a baggie on our fridge.  It was finally time to have the teeth put in.

She was so excited!  They put a bracket on the teeth and then wired them into her braces as they would a normal tooth.  They look really good and her smile looks complete now.  She couldn't stop smiling afterward.

Beautiful smile!!

Cool

I had a rough day at work the other day. I really hate Covid and all the contact tracing and the angst that comes with it. Parents overreact and then kids are nervous...it’s just causing a mess. And then we had a substitute that...well, it was just a rough day.

To make it better, someone gave me this...

a package of Starburst Duo. They are amazing! Each one is a combo of two flavors. It’s not that amazing to some people but when you are having a bad day, it really is.

State soccer

Courtney is on jv and they can only have 20 girls on the roster so she isn’t playing in the post seasons games, but she gets to go watch and support.

This is a pic of Courtney (14) and Sammie (7) supporting their team. The team handily won over Bear River on Saturday so they play this Wednesday (14th) in Logan. Courtney isn’t going to travel with them because she has chemistry lab that day and doesn’t want to miss it (plus it would be a super long day!) but she will be cheering from home. Logan is a good team so hopefully Snow Canyon will show up ready to play.

Last game

Courtney had her last soccer game of the season! They beat Cedar High and it was a good game. We are super happy that they were able to finish the season. Playoffs begin this weekend and, depending on Covid restrictions, they may take JV with them. So we aren’t quite finished with the season but it’s getting close.

We had to do the traditional Courtney and Sammie picture.

Cute soccer Courtney

The JV team (Courtney is front row, 4th from left):

Their coach, Brent, is the one in this pic. We didn’t get any with him in it.

Good driving!

Courtney drove home from the soccer game last week and parked the car in the garage as usual. It was dark so she didn’t notice anything unique. The next morning when Bryan went out to get in his truck to go to work he saw this...

a squished flat scorpion with tire marks around it! Courtney ran over the scorpion the night before when she parked in the garage. Crazy but I’m glad she had great aim in the dark!!

Bag

Courtney loves all things Nike. She found a Nike bag on sale and just couldn’t pass it up. She “loved” the colors and it wasn’t until she got the bag and it fell next to her cleats that she realized why she loves it so much....

They are the same color!!!!

Soccer quilt

We started this quilt of Courtney’s old soccer jerseys last year but finally finished it!! You can tell how happy Courtney is to have it done.

Up until Jersey #30, the number of the Jersey was Courtney’s age! And a lot of the early ones were when she was coached by Bryan. So it was a fun project.

Man down!!

I was vacuuming the office last Friday when I accidentally vacuumed up Bryan’s earphones. 😳😬

Courtney heard my gasp and the loud banging noise in the vaccine and came running. “Man down!” I hurried and stopped the vacuum then had to unravel the cord from the brush. Courtney and I were laughing so hard.

We hurried and went to Target to buy some replacements. Courtney made a sign (“Man down but reinforcements have arrived”) and we gave the replacements to Bryan.
