Girls Night In

Bryan wanted to go to a Snow Canyon High School game to support the young men in the ward. He took Ethan with him and, of course, Courtney wanted to go too. Ethan really wanted it to be a "boys night out" so he didn't want her tagging along. I came up with a solution...let's paint our fingernails!

Courtney is very girly and loves to have her nails painted, so she went for it right away. The minute the door closed behind the boys she turned to me and said, "Let's paint!!" So we took off for the bathroom, cut her nails, washed her hands and then painted her nails sparkly. She wanted a color, so we painted over the sparkles and made them red. She was so happy that we had to take pictures.

What a girl!

Junior Primary

Our Church time changed from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Some moms would be thrilled to get some extra sleep and have extra time to get the kids ready for Church...NOT I!! We are such morning people that our kids are up at 6 a.m. each morning (sometimes 5:30 if Courtney realizes her glow-worm is in her bed). It is really hard to keep the kids entertained (reverently) while we wait to go to Church. Last Sunday they were up and dressed by 8:30 (our usual time) then we read stories and I tried to keep them occupied.

Courtney has been so excited for a long time about becoming a Sunbeam and going into Junior Primary. They had an activity the first Saturday of January where they got to meet their new teacher and find out where their class is located. She was so excited. Sunday morning she had a cough and a runny nose. It wasn't too bad, but by the time the Sacrament was over, I had to take her home. The poor girl missed the first day of Junior Primary! But she slept and wasn't feeling well, so I don't think she noticed.

Here are some pictures of them before Church trying to keep themselves occupied. Ethan built a fort in the living room and then played Legos in that. He was so nice that he let Courtney join him even though he knew she would destroy his creations.

A year after Bryan gave me a digital camera I finally decided to read the owner's manual and figure out how to use it. I just hate having to read an owner's manual on the computer. I would rather have a paper one that I can take outside with me to practice. But oh well. So I made notes while I read of things I wanted to try. Courtney wanted to go outside and play today, so I figured that was the perfect opportunity to use the camera. I got some cute shots of her and some not-so-cute ones. She likes to be difficult (I know, hard to imagine that MY child would be difficult) but she kept turning her back to me and giggling when I would try and take a photo. But I got a lot of practice in and figured some things out. Here are some of the shots:

Second Christmas

Last Tuesday we had my parents over for dinner and had our "second Christmas." We were in Midway and my parents were in Phoenix, with Leigh Ann, so they saved their gifts to us and Leigh Ann's gifts to us and we opened them Tuesday as a family. It was fun.

Ethan LOVES Legos, but he didn't get any until Tuesday when he got a bunch of Star Wars legos. He and Bryan spent the evening putting some together, although Ethan is getting really good and didn't need much help.

Courtney got some princess dolls and another crown (thanks Leigh Ann) to go with her princess dress from Grandma Pack. She got a Snow White bath doll that changes her hair color, etc. in the bath. Now Courtney is dying to take a bath!

Tuesday morning the kids were really bored and we had a Gingerbread Christmas tree, so we decided to decorate it. The icing didn't turn out very well (I think my bowl had some grease in it that I didn't see) but it looked okay. It was only put together for about an hour before they began picking the candy off it. So I let them have a free for all...but they only ate the frosting and the candy. Courtney's little mouth was all green!

Ice Blocking

I took the kids to the crazy park this afternoon. There were so many people there. One of Ethan's friends who had been in his kindergarten class was there, so they played together. Courtney wasn't interested in playing on the equipment so she went to a hill that was by the playground. She kept running up and down.

After a while, some of the kids joined her and they realized that there were some ice blocks with towels on them at the bottom of the hill. So they decided to do some ice blocking. What I think happened was that a bunch of teenagers went ice blocking last night at the park and left their ice blocks when they were finished. The little kids loved it and Ethan declared that "this is funner than sledding was last week!" He was going down on his belly, face first. I would have been worried, but he already lost his two front teeth so there isn't much to knock out now. Courtney even got into it and was sliding down on her rear end.

We only lasted about 30-35 minutes because Ethan was soaked through his pants and was really cold. But they had so much fun. Too bad I forgot my camera!
