Halloween

Ethan was a bit frustrated after school because he wanted a "cool" costume and we couldn't find anything at home.  He had thought to be Indiana Jones and Grandpa Oman made him a whip, but he wasn't sure that's what he wanted to be.  So after school on Halloween, we booked it to the Party Store to see what we could find.  The "Morph" costume was really popular so Ethan wanted one and we were able to get the last one in green.  He was pretty happy about it.

Our neighborhood has a tradition of having a big party on Halloween but for the last couple of years someone else has been in charge of it and they have changed it to the Monday before Halloween.  A bunch of us missed getting together and having a potluck before the kids went trick-or-treating so we all got together and had soups before the kids headed out.  It was a lot smaller than it usually is but there were only a few families who got together.  The kids loved it and then they were all ready to go out and get their loot.

When they were finished trick-or-treating they came home to answer the door.  They had a lot of fun and got a bunch of candy.  They got to pick 10 pieces and then put the rest out for the Halloween Fairy.

Halloween Parade

On Halloween morning the kids had to decide what they wanted to be for Halloween.  Ethan decided to wear a shirt that said "I'm Scarier than my Costume."  But Courtney decided to wear her old dance costume.  I had to put a cabosh on the shorts because they weren't up to dress code but she was okay with that and wore a skirt instead.  At the elementary school they don't get to wear their costumes all day because they don't have the parade until the afternoon.  So after lunch they are all excused to change into their costumes and then the parade begins.

I couldn't help with her party because Ethan gets out early and I needed to be home with him, but she had a great time.

Scout Fireside

The Church had a huge fireside broadcast to celebrate scouting.  Ethan wasn't too thrilled about this because he thought the fireside would be really boring and wasn't happy to have to sit and listen to a bunch of "old scouter dudes" talk about how cool scouting is for hours.  And he had to wear his new uniform shirt which is too big because I don't want to have to buy him a new one every year when he grows bigger.  But he was pleasantly suprised..

Our scouts were meeting at the Stake Center and then driving to the Church on Main Street.  They met up with all the other scouts in the Stake and walked, with firetruck and police escort, back to the Stake Center.  The members of the Wards were asked to meet them at the Stake Center to join the procession and watch the broadcast.  I was running Courtney around to dance and parties so I was a bit late but made it right in time for the broadcast.  I didn't find Ethan but was sure he was with his troop.  It was a really great broadcast that wasn't a lecture but a play.  They had kids repelling from the top of the Conference Center and all kinds of things.  It was really cool and the boys loved it.  I think it was a great intro to firesides, although I didn't tell Ethan that they aren't all like that.

Pizazz Halloween Party

The kids certainly got a lot of usage from Bryan's old football jerseys.  Courtney had this thing where she can't wear the same costume more than once.  So she wore one costume to the neighborhood Halloween Party on Monday and then wore Bryan's jersey to her Pizazz Halloween Party on Tuesday.  We used eyeliner to put the dark marks under her eyes and she tried to look really scary!

Pumpkin Contest

Ethan's orthodontist's office had a pumpkin decorating contest.  The winner got an ipad mini, so Ethan was really interested in winning.  He wanted to do something that was unique.  We found some ideas online but nothing was working out.  So he grabbed some paints and splattered his pumpkin.  It ended up looking really cool!

We ran across town to enter it into the contest and then watched the internet for the winners.  Unfortunately, he didn't win.  But he had a fun time decorating his pumpkin.

Yes, I know I have gotten a bit behind on the blog but I am going to try and remedy that today.  So watch out!

Jerseys

For Red Ribbon Week the kids had a "sports jersey" day at school. So Bryan got out his old football jerseys and let the kids wear them. They had a blast!! They loved wearing Bryan's jerseys.

Courtney had a Pizazz Halloween party that night so we put black under her eyes and she used that as her costume.
