First Day of School!

Courtney has been VERY anxiously awaiting the first day of school.  Her backpack was ready to go a week before and she had all her binders organized and her schedule ready to go.  It was pretty hilarious how excited she was.  Ethan, on the other hand, wasn't too excited.

Courtney is in 6th grade at Lava Ridge Intermediate.  Ethan is in 9th grade at Snow Canyon Middle School.  Courtney will be riding her bike with friends to school, but she wanted a ride on the first day of school.  Ethan rides the bus and likes it that way...although it's about a 30 minute ride that should really only take 5 minutes.  Ugh!

Courtney is almost 11 years old (1 more day) and going into 6th.

Ethan is 14 years old and going into 9th.

Crazy kids!

I dropped Courtney off at school on the first day and I didn't even get a backward glance!  She hopped out of the van, saw a friend and took off to walk in with her.  I love that my kids are independent and we don't have the curbside crying fest...at least from them.  Yes, I cried all the way home.

Ethan walks to the bus stop down the street and I didn't get too much of a backward glance from him either.  It was crazy to think that, although he isn't in the high school, he is starting his Freshman year!

They both had a great day at school!

Water Balloons

The YW have been asked to bring water balloons to the youth activity later in August.  I wanted to test out the balloons that fill all at once and tie themselves so we wouldn't be spending days filling water balloons for 200 youth.  So I bought some at Walmart and tested one out.  The kids were very happy to help me.  It was a success!

Swim Team Party

At the end of the season the swim team always has a party.  They have it at the pool and the kids and family can swim for free for 2 hours.  There is a potluck with all kinds of food for everyone to share.  The kids have a lot of fun and the coaches organize games for them to play.  Ethan likes the "harass your sister" game.  He is quite good at it.

They got their medals too.  Courtney wanted an Olympic picture with it!

Gaining

Ethan is gaining on Bryan.  (Ignore the weird face Ethan is making, I am hoping it's just a phase.)

Haircut Time

You can always tell when it's back to school time because Courtney gets a haircut.  After all the swimming she did this summer and all the times she had her hair in a pony tail, it was in bad shape.  I had them cut about 3 inches off the bottom but it is still really long.

Poor Ethan

Ethan woke up one Friday morning not feeling well.  He kept running to the bathroom and his stomach was really hurting.  We let him rest and he slept and slept.  He took a nap (yes, A NAP!) Saturday afternoon for a couple hours and then went to bed at about 5:30 p.m. and slept until Sunday morning at 9 a.m.  It was crazy.

Monday morning he wasn't feeling any better so I took him to the doctor.  The doctor said he had seen the same symptoms in 3 other patience since last Thursday and didn't know what it could be.  He said to give Ethan probiotics and a lot of Gatorade and water and let it run its course.  We went to the pharmacy to get some and then went home.

We got home and I gave Ethan a Gatorade to drink and one of the probiotic pills.  About 5 minutes later the poor guy threw up.  I called the doctor's office and the nurse said she would talk to the doctor to figure it out.  About 10 minutes later, they called back.  The doctor didn't think it was the probiotic that made him throw up because "no one is allergic to probiotics."  She recommended I give him the pill right before bed so that's what we did.

The next morning Ethan woke up and had a huge rash on his stomach and chest!  I called the doctor's office to find out what to do (besides Benadryl) to help him with the rash that was now added onto his stomach problems.  I was told not to give him the probiotic again and just keep him hydrated until it passed.  Ugh.

By the afternoon the poor boy had the rash all up his neck and on his face.  He didn't itch but it was a pain.

It took quite a while for the rash to go away and we now know that he must be allergic to probiotics.

Dance Camp

At the end of July Courtney had a dance camp for 3 days.  It was a bit intense but she had a lot of fun.  On the last day of camp the parents were invited to see what they had learned.  It was fun to watch them.

This was her favorite dance.  She loves hip hop!
