KCSG - Weather Wise KCSG Visits Santa Clara Elementary

Last month the weather people of the local news station visited Ethan's 2nd grade class and taught them about weather. Here is the little blurb from the broadcast. Ethan is the kid in the middle in the red shirt that is waving like crazy and following the camera. He had a great time!

Ironman Kids Fun Run

The kids participated in the Ironman Kids Fun Run tonight and it was lots of fun. We got them registered yesterday and then tonight went down to Town Square where the official Ironman finish line is, so they could race. They only did the 200 meter, but it was fun for them.

I didn't see Ethan go by me when he was running so I didn't get a picture of him. I only saw Courtney because my Aunt Kathy pointed her out as she was running by. I turned in time to see her wipe out on the asphalt. She got back up and started to run but the minute she saw me it was all over. She started coming over to the side where we were standing and got hit again by another kid running and went down hard.

Kathy helped me pick her up and pull her over the barrier. She was crying pretty bad. I think it was a combination of pain and embarrassment. A lot of people around us, mainly women, told her how well she had done to even try and race and that she did well. But she kept screaming. After a minute Courtney started to squirm and yell at me to put her down. When I tried to put her down next to me she told me, "No, put me in there," and pointed to the racing lane. So I lifted her up and put her back and she took off running for the finish line. I was so impressed. A lot of the woman said how impressive it was that she wanted to finish on her own without me pushing her. I was amazed because I didn't think she would keep going, but she did a great job. Ethan was waiting for her at the finish line to make sure she was okay. He told me later that he was nervous that she would get lost and be afraid so he wanted to wait for her to make sure she was okay. They got a finisher medal and a drink.

When we got home we had to take a picture of Courtney's Ironman owie and then put a band-aid on it.



At the finish Ethan wasn't too happy because there were so many people and he didn't feel comfortable because we didn't know what was going on. But when we got home he said it was a lot of fun and he wants to do the mile next year.

Field Day

Ethan had field day today with the kindergarten through second grades. He was pretty excited about it and ready to run his hardest.

When he got home he was so excited to show me his ribbons - purple for participation, red for second place in the 50 meter sprint and white for third place in the broad jump. Then my piano student showed up and I told him I would take his picture when I finished. I had taped the ribbons onto the computer cabinet and Ethan decided to take matters into his own hands.

GOALS!

At Courtney's last soccer game yesterday she finally made a goal...then another! We are so excited for her and she was thrilled. Too bad that neither Bryan nor I were at her game. We had mutual so Grandma took care of the kids and brought them home from the game. Courtney was a bit upset at us but she was more excited about her goals!

She Bikes!

Courtney has been trying to learn to ride a bike for about a month. She had Bryan take off the training wheels but she isn't very patient when he tries to teach her to balance and she usually yells at him. She is completely convinced that only her friend Hayley's grandpa can teach her to ride a bike but he isn't coming back to town until Fall.

Lately she has been gliding on her bike using her feet to push off on the ground and move her forward. I told her that all she had to do was pedal but she didn't believe me. This morning she went out, as usual, to work on her bike riding skills and came running back in so excited. She yelled, "I did it!!! I rode my bike!" So I had to video tape it. She gets off to a great start but then gets a bit wobbly. She rode around with Hayley this morning before and after preschool. She is getting better! I'm so happy for her.

Dance Girl

Courtney had Parents Night at her dance studio last night and it was fun. She was so excited to wear her costume again but it was pretty poofy on the skirt and she couldn't find her knees for one dance. But it's all good when you're 4.
