Ivins Basketball
Ethan played his last Ivins basketball game last Tuesday. He had a fun season but I have to admit that I will be happy to have our Tuesday evenings back! We are going to have an ice cream party for the boys this next weekend to celebrate and give them their certificates.
Technically they still have one more game but our Blue and Gold Banquet is at the same time as the game so we are just going to miss it.

Stake Conference
Last weekend was our Stake Conference. It was really good. Elder Zivic from the Quorum of the 70 came with his wife, along with President Leonard and his wife (the local mission president).
I was asked to speak at the adult Saturday session, which went well. I would much rather speak than play the organ, so I was fine with speaking.
Elder Zivic was really funny. He and his wife are from Argentina and he couldn't speak English very well, but he did his best. His wife spoke really well and it was fun to speak with her. But Elder Zivic said that Elder Garcia (another member of the 70, I think) told him one day that "In the Celestial Kingdom everyone will speak English.....with a Spanish accent."
During the Sunday session of Stake Conference, President Leonard spoke and mentioned an experience he had as a youth in a meeting of the Castle Dale Stake. After the meeting I went up to his wife (who I had talked to quite a bit the evening before) and asked where President Leonard was from. She told me it was a "really tiny town in Eastern Utah called Huntington." I told her I grew up in Huntington and she grabbed his arm and said, "You'll want to speak with Sister Pack a bit."
It turns out that he was born and raised in Huntington and is a bit younger than my mom (she thinks he may be Kathy's age). He asked who my grandparents were and, when I told him they were Norman and Opal Andersen, he said, "They lived next to Guymons and I know exactly who your family is!" It was fun to talk to him for a little bit.
Anyway, this just goes to show that EVERYONE knows someone from Huntington, even if they haven't figured it out yet. We are everywhere! ;)

Fund Raiser
Our youth are going on a trek at Martin's Cove this summer so they have to do fund raisers to get the money. The young men decided to aerate the lawns in the ward. Bryan and Ethan thatched before they came and then we had a GREAT aeration job. Of course, our lawns was aerated by the leaders, but that's okay.
A couple of days later we woke up to this:
We are now hoping that we haven't killed the lawn by thatching and then aerating before it snowed.

Courtney's Valentine's Party
I was asked to help at Courtney's Valentine's party too. It was a crazy day but it was fun to be there with her.
They made candy friendship bracelets (which were promptly eaten), made tissue flowers for their moms, played a few games and decorated cookies with whipped cream and fruit. Courtney had a lot of fun with all the activities. She got a bit of a stomach ache though because they had the party right before lunch but she got over it. She had a great time.
It was a rainy day so they had indoor recess but the kids loved it because they were closer to their candy for longer. ;)

Ethan's Valentine's Party
I was asked to help with Ethan's class Valentine's party on Tuesday. I was able to make a bunch of sugar cookies and frosting for them to decorate.
They decorated cookies, played games, danced, did the limbo and a craft. It was a fun party. Ethan was pretty nervous at the limbo but he did a good job.

Ethan's Piano Recital
Ethan had a piano recital on Monday. I was busy taking video with my camera so I didn't get any still photos of him while he was playing but he did a great job! He was really nervous and let out a huge sigh of relief when he was finished. He worked really hard to get this song ready.
Ethan's piano teacher had an incentive program going where the students would get a reward if they practiced for 2000 minutes. She gave them 12 weeks to get the 2000 minutes. That meant he had to practice for 30 minutes 5 days a week and then 1 extra 30 minutes of practicing per month. And he did it!!! She started the incentive before Christmas Break so it was rough to keep practicing where there weren't any lessons but Ethan roughed through it. He was one of 6 students who completed it (out of about 30). So he received a $5 gift card to Wendy's which he thought was THE BOMB!

Thatching the lawn has been something we have needed to do for a few years. So we borrowed my dad's thatcher, attached it to the lawn mower and went at it...well, Bryan and Ethan went at it. Courtney went out to help after a while but I don't know how much help she was to the boys.
There was a lot of dead grass that came up. They raked it into a pile and then jumped in it. It was pretty hilarious. Here is a video of it all (ignore it when I yell at Courtney, she doesn't look before she runs across the street!):

We ended up breaking the thatcher attachment and our rake. Ugh! But my dad said they can be easily fixed.
