We went to Pack Meeting early so Bryan could help weigh in the cars and, after the flag ceremony, the racing began. Ethan didn't do so good, but it gives us something to work toward for next year. You better watch out because he is set on winning next year!!!

Pinewood Derby
It was Ethan's first pinewood derby. He was so excited. We bought him a kit at the Scout Store (complete with a "skin" that rubbed onto the car so we didn't have to paint it), Bryan helped him cut it out on my scroll saw and they worked together (the night before) to complete the car. Bryan ran to the Scout Store the afternoon of the derby to get some weights to try and make it lighter. It looked so great and Ethan was so excited.

Conference Tent
Last year Ethan read a Friend article about a family who made a "Conference Tent" where they sat and watched Conference. The kids made one last year and decided this year they wanted to make another one. It works for about 30 minutes before they begin fighting and arguing. This is the last year but it was fun while it lasted.
Ethan's Soccer
For the first time this season, I was available to go to one of Ethan's soccer games!! So far this year I have had something Church related on Saturday mornings so I wasn't able to go. But this time Bryan was the busy one so I went.
Ethan played right wing, left wing and a bit of goalie. His team lost 5-0, but he had fun.

Bryan's SHAC Triathlon
Bryan had the Sand Hollow Aquatics Center triathlon on Saturday. Ethan had a soccer game at the same time so we didn't get to watch, but he did awesome! He came in 1st in his age division so he felt good about how he raced. His split times were a bit messed up because something was wrong with the timing mat. It shows his swim and transition 1 (T1) combined and then his T1 time is his biking time and so forth. But his overall time is correct, he just doesn't know how he improved. Except his run time did improve over last November, so that's great. I was so proud of him!!

Yard Sale Again!
Courtney decided that she needs more "spending money" that she can buy things with. I told her that she has enough "things" and doesn't need anymore. She strongly disagreed with me, found a bunch of "things" she doesn't need and decided to have a yard sale so she could buy new "things." Okay!
So this is what is in front of my house:

She is holding up the sign but there isn't anyone coming down the street. It took about 5 minutes before her arms were too tired to hold up the sign. CUTE! She hasn't had any customers but the rule is that if something is taken out to be sold, it doesn't come back in the house. So to DI we will go sometime this week.

Science Project
Courtney's teacher invited her students (the ones who wanted to participate) to do a science experiment about a plant. They are studying plants right now in their class and this is another way to incorporate that into their learning. Courtney decided she wanted to grow a plant. So I found some old seeds from a few years ago, some dirt from the shed and got a terra cotta pot that she had decorated at her birthday party last year. And we planted flower seeds (4 O'Clock flowers).
We watered them, put them in sunlight and waited. They GREW! I was so excited because the seeds were forever old and the dirt was...well, dirt. I wasn't sure if anything would work and I was afraid that Courtney was drowning the poor seeds. But it worked.
She was first up today at the presentations for her class and was a bit nervous. She didn't want to go up alone so I stood by her while she told how we had planted the seeds, watered them and how they were now growing. It was fun to watch.
