The Dentist

The kids love going to the dentist!! It takes forever but there are games to play and movies to watch so the kids don't care.

Both of the kids had great check ups!! The hygienist congratulated them on the best brushing she had seen all day. Neither one had cavities and so they both got balloons, a book and coupons for a free Pizza Hut pizza.

Ethan had a tooth that needed to come out. It was just hanging on but was getting in the way of his braces. Ethan pulls his own teeth so he wouldn't let the dentist pull it for him. As a challenge, the dentist told Ethan the he would give him an extra prize if Ethan pulled it out before leaving the office. The hygienist gave Ethan a cup, tooth treasure box, gauze and told him "good luck."

It didn't take too long before Ethan was saying "got it!" They have him an extra balloon and an extra coupon. He was in heaven!!!

Trick or Tri

Courtney wanted to participate in the Trick or Tri. It had been a crazy week and we forgot to sign her up. But she didn't forget about it so we went and did a late sign up. She was so excited!!

Her tri didn't start until afternoon. Bryan took her down and got things set up but they realized that she had forgotten her ankle timer. Bryan called me and Rthan and I ran back home for it. Courtney was in line but nervous that we wouldn't get back to her in time so he jumped out of line and went to the back. So... It took FOREVER for her to start her swim.

I have pictures I need to download so I will have to post those later, but she did a great job!!' She finished in a little over 17 minutes.

Here is her cool finishers medal.

Shaved Ice

We have some neighbors who have a shaved ice machine. They put a sign out on their front lawn that said "free shaved ice" and then called everyone in the neighborhood to invite them over.

Courtney was gone so I took Ethan over to their house and we had some great shaved ice. It was so great to sit, eat ice and chat with neighbors.

Evaluation

We didn't know how Courtney had  scored on her evaluation because she performed early and the judge didn't give us much feedback.  She was dying to know.  Her teacher told me she would text us on Saturday so we would know but I didn't get a text and we forgot about it.  Monday morning I sent her a quick text to find out and she called me back.  Turned out that she didn't have my cell phone number so she couldn't text, but Courtney had earned a SUPERIOR on her song.  That meant that, had we been in town on Saturday, she would have been asked to perform in the honors recital Saturday afternoon.  I was glad we weren't in town because that recital was SO LONG last year.  But it was a great accomplishment for her and we are so proud of how hard she worked on her song.

Her piano teacher has a big window in the front of her house and she writes sayings and things on it.  She changes them quite frequently and has a lot of fun with it.  She called to tell me that Courtney's name was up on her window as congratulations so we went over there after school to take a photo.

Going to Phoenix

Friday morning we woke up, packed the van and took off for Phoenix. Gary's funeral was at 3 pm so we had to get going. We made it in plenty of time to check in to the hotel, change our clothes and get to the funeral home.

It was a nice service where people were invited to tell stories and share their memories of Gary. It was fun to hear the hilarious stories of him. It was nice. Then we went to the Church for dinner. The women were so nice to put it together for us.

Saturday morning we let the kids watch tv for a bit before eating breakfast at the hotel. At one point, Bryan handed the controller to Ethan. Ethan was thrilled!!

Then we went to Leigh Ann's house to hang out and wait for the bowling alley to open. Then we all went and had fun!

Ethan was having a bad game and was starting to get upset with himself.  He had a split and Bryan told him that if Ethan could knock down the remaining pins, Bryan would give him $5.00.  Ethan is a sucker for money so....he knocked down the remaining pins!
Courtney asked if she could get the same deal but was unable to knock down the pins.  Here is what she looked like when Bryan gave her a "pity dollar."
A little bit later, Ethan had another split and Bryan said, "I will give you another $5 if you knock all the pins down."  Ethan took that challenge and...knocked the pins down again.
This was Bryan's reaction:

The money was just burning a hole in Ethan's pocket and there was a snack bar, so Bryan took him up and bought Courtney lunch and Ethan bought loaded cheese fries to share with everyone.

We had a fun time bowling!
