Licensed Driver!
Ethan finished driver's ed, drove with the instructor the required hours, took the driving test with the instructor, and took the online tests he needed to finish. When he had his completion certificate, I made an appointment and drove him out to the DMV. We had to pay a fee (of course), have his picture taken, and then he got his license. Right now, it's just a paper license, but his plastic one will be coming in the mail soon.
It's crazy that he can drive how! Now we have to get him on our insurance which will be painful because it's so expensive to insure a teenage boy.
Huntington Beach
My Uncle Kelly was getting married the weekend after school let out. Courtney and I decided we wanted to go down. Courtney would babysit during the sealing for my cousin. We left Friday morning to drive to Huntington Beach to the hotel. Then Courtney and I went to the beach!
It was super windy so it was cold and the water was freezing. We got in anyway and stayed for a little while but it wasn't as fun because of the wind. It did make it so there weren't many people at the beach though.
We showered, changed, then met up with my parents to go to dinner. Then we went to bed.
Saturday morning we got up, got ready, and made our way to the Newport Beach Temple. We met up with my cousin and Courtney took their girls then the rest of us went into the temple.
The sealing was beautiful and I'm so excited for Kelly and Liz. It was fun to see so many family members at the temple. We went to a luncheon afterward at a very nice restaurant.

Courtney went outside her comfort zone to try some food she wouldn't normally eat. Some was a hit others, not so much.

When we finished the luncheon and had visited with all the family, we took off to change our clothes and go to the beach again. This time it wasn't windy and there were more people. The water was still freezing but we had a great time playing in the water.
Then we went to bed. We drove home Sunday morning. It was a great trip and we had a lot of fun.

Soccer Tryouts
Courtney and her best friend decided to try out for the United FC soccer team. They don't have a 04 team so the girls will have to play on a 05 team (instead of playing up). We signed them up and then they had 2 days worth of tryouts to see if they would make the team. I wasn't nervous for them because they have been playing for a while and have good skills.
I drove them to the Middle School, got them checked in, and they got their numbers. Then they were off to show what they could do.
After the last day of tryouts, we got a text congratulating them on making the team. So now she is a member of the United FC soccer team!

ZYSO
Courtney is finished with ZYSO for the season. She isn't sure if she wants to do it again next year or not but she had fun. If she wants to do it again she will need to try out in the Fall.

He is 16!!
Ethan had a great 16th birthday, I think. He woke up to a maple Texas donut.
He had an awards ceremony at Success Academy in the morning, so I drove him over to go to that. I wasn't allowed to go in (and there weren't any parents that I saw go in anyway) so I went back in an hour to pick him up. And he got an award!
Ethan earned the presidential scholar award and he also earned the Spirit of Success award. The Presidential Scholar award was for his GPA. The Spirit of Success award is only given to one recipient from each class that demonstrates hard work and determination. He was a bit shocked to get that one but I was happy for him. He has worked his little can off this year and it was great that he saw that his professors noticed.
We had a family party of pizza and cake then Ethan got to open presents.
He wanted a cake that was half chocolate and half vanilla. I had to distinguish it somehow.
Courtney gave him a bunch of crazy socks that he can wear to church.
He also got money, games, and some other things he wanted. It was a good haul.
Later that night, he had a bunch of friends over for games and treats. They played Ethan's new game called "Super Fight." It's such a teenaged boy game because you pick cards and then 2 people battle against each other as to which bunch of cards makes the most sense. The boys were over here for a long time arguing and playing with each other.
I can't believe he is 16!

Recording Studio
The intermediate orchestra class won $15,000 from the Ellen Show. After their teacher went back and forth with the school district for months trying to figure out how to spend the money (it was crazy how picky things got), the teacher decided to give the kids an experience.
She had a friend who owns a professional recording studio in St. George. She talked to him and he let them buy studio time. So they went to his studio and recorded a CD. The kids had a great time and everyone ended up with a CD.
Then they went to Fiesta Fun and got to ride go-carts, play mini golf, bowl, play laser tag, and play arcade games all afternoon. It was so much fun for them! What a great memory!

Last Soccer Game
Courtney had her last soccer game of the season and her last soccer game as a Galaxy Elite player. It's sad because this team has been together for the past 4 years (8 seasons, fall and spring).
The way a team is set up is by the birth year of the players. So Courtney should play on a 05 team because she was born in 2005. But they didn't have one with Galaxy so she played up a year and was on a 04 team. That meant she was playing girls at least a year older than she was and, because she has a late birthday, many girls were 2 years older. And it was a great experience for her. She was pushed to be better and I think it made a huge difference in her playing.
At their last game, the parents were trying to figure out if we were going to have a team for next year because many of the girls are going into 9th grade and trying out for their high school soccer teams. When everything shook out, we ended up with too few girls to make a team.
It was a fun ride and Courtney made some great friends. I'm not going to lie, there are some parents I am glad we don't have to listen to yell anymore. But all in all, it was a fun team to be a part of and it was unique because it wasn't a huge club team. They only had 20 girls on the roster.
