Courtney's Reaction

This was Courtney's reaction when I told her Ethan had finished the Articles of Faith:

NO! NO!!!!!

The Park

The kids got really bored in Presidents Day so we went to the Fire Station Park. Courtney wanted to go to another park but Ethan didn't want to go there so I took them to the Fire Station Park. After they got over being mad at me they had a great time!

Ethan twisted around on some of the equipment. He actually got a bit nauseous and didn't want dinner later. But we had fun and it was a gorgeous day.

Awards

An awards ceremony for the Reflections contest was held. Courney got her certificate along with a $5 gift coin to Targwt for being a school winner. Then the kids got ice cream bar and were sent back to class.

Scout Pictures

I found these pictures from the scout celebration a few months ago. They were on our bulletin board at the Church. This picture is before they began their walk from the Center Street Chapel to the Stake Center.

The Play Equipment

The old swing set/slide thing we have moved from 3 different houses was finally done in. We decided to take it apart before someone got hurt. So on Saturday we all worked on it.

After:
I cried but Bryan was happy that we have room to put up a basketball hoop.

He's Done!

Ethan has been working on memorizing the Articles of Faith for his Faith in God.  He still has some other goals to finish but he really just wanted to get through the Articles of Faith (plus, Courtney has been working on them too and she was gaining on him and he couldn't let his little sister beat him!).

Every day after school we work on one of the Articles. Today he finished the 13th! And it was a really easy one for him. He was shocked when he recited it correctly.

Here is his happy dance:

He's hilarious!!

Pizazz Video

I realized that I had the video of Courtney's dance on my phone. So here it is:

Pizazz at Snow Canyon High School

Pizazz was invited to dance during the halftime of a Snow Canyon Warrior Boys Basketball game.  It's great when they are at Snow Canyon because then all our neighbors/friends get to see Courtney dance.  She loves it!

I need to get the video linked to our blog but in the meantime, you can see how she looked.  She loves dancing and has a lot of fun doing it.

She has a toe-touch solo at the end and I wasn't quite ready to take a picture so I got a weird looking photo.  But she does a really great job.
Organized chaos at the end of the dance.

My Birthday

I think there are photos on Bryan's phone that I need to download because I think he took pictures but I'm not sure.

Ethan brought me flowers on Saturday when they got home from snowboarding.  He is a great kid.  Then on Sunday morning, I had early morning meetings so I didn't get breakfast in bed but that was okay.  When we got home from Church they made me crepes for lunch, which would have been what I wanted for breakfast.

We invited Mom and Dad, and Don and Kathy over for dinner and Bryan cooked a great meal.  We had chicken cordon bleu, wild rice, vegetable (I can't remember what it was now) and then we had Boston Creme Pie for dessert.  It was really yummy.

I received a lot of fun gifts and THANK YOU for all the birthday wishes.

Snowboarding!!

On January 11th, Ethan and Bryan had the opportunity to go snowboarding with the Scouts at Brian Head.  It was the Klondike but since Ethan is an 11-year old scout, he was only invited up for the second day and only if he brought his dad with him.  They were more than happy to go.

I don't have pictures because they are on Bryan's phone and I haven't downloaded them again.  But they had a great time and Ethan was a natural.  They drove up to Brian Head and got there in time for the flag ceremony.  They then went and got their gear.  Bryan decided to try snowboarding with Ethan so they were both geared up for snowboarding.  It was a beautiful day!

They took a snowboarding lesson, which meant that they were able to miss most of the huge lines at the ski lift.  Then they were on their own.  Bryan had a harder time than Ethan because he was used to skiing but Ethan was off and running.  Bryan said there were some times when Ethan was going too fast for comfort, but he was in control.

They were pretty sore the next day but they want to go again!!

Reflections

Every year the PTA has a Reflections contest.  Students can enter all kinds of projects from dances, music compositions, drawings, photos, and poems/stories.  Courtney always draws a picture at the last minute and then enters it.  This year she said she wanted to do something but then never said anything more.  So I threw out the form thinking we would have a year where I wouldn't have to worry about it.

Three days before it was due, Courtney asked where the forms was so she could get started.  WHAT?!?!  Luckily, the school emailed the form to all the parents so I printed out a copy and asked her what she wanted to do.  We didn't have a lot of time so she needed to be thinking fast!  She decided she wanted to take a photo of the sunrise.  I had meetings on Sunday before Church so Bryan took over helping her.  He didn't realize what it was for and I didn't explain the whole thing to him.  I had the camera on a tripod and figured it would be easier if she used the timer on the camera so she wouldn't shake and make the photo blurry.

Sunday morning, Bryan showed Courtney how to focus the camera, how to set the timer, and then he stood back and let her take photos of whatever she wanted to.  And this is the photo she ended up with:

I was really amazed when I downloaded it that evening.  We didn't do any editing to the photo.  I sent it to Costco for printing and picked it up on Monday.  Courtney filled out the paperwork giving her photo a title (I can't remember what it was) and explaining why this photo inspired her.  We put it in all in a page protector and she turned it in on Tuesday, which was the deadline.

The next week the school winners were announced and she WON!!  She got a certificate, $5 gift coin to Target, and they are sending her submission on to the District competition.  She was so excited and I was so proud of her because it was all her own work!!

Sleep Eating

I don't think I have documented this before so here it goes.  Ethan sleep eats every morning!!  I don't know if you can tell from the photos, but his eyes aren't opened.  And they don't open at all until he is finished.  Each morning he gets 4 chocolate filled crepes and a hot chocolate (that has been sitting so it's only lukewarm).  He doesn't use a fork and usually it only takes him about 4 minutes to eat them.  He has recently substituted a small glass of orange juice for the hot chocolate.  It's actually pretty funny to watch because he will lift the lid off the top of the plate (it's there to keep the crepes warm) and just feel around for a crepe.

When he finishes, he puts his dishes on the counter, says "Thanks. I love you. I'm going to shower" and walks out of the kitchen.  He is much more alert after his shower.  He's a great kid!!

New Years Eve

We hung out as a family on New Years Eve during the day.  We had told the kids we would have a sleep over in the living room that night so we could all be in our pjs and watch the ball drop.  Courtney wanted to get her mattress out in the living room really early in the day but we kept putting her off.  She got really tired of being put off and so she went in her room and brought her mattress out into the living room on her own.  It was pretty funny.  I guess she has learned a very valuable lesson...if you don't want to wait, just do it yourself!

At about 8 p.m. we had a knock on the door.  Some neighborhood kids were playing Ghosts in the Graveyard and invited Ethan and Courtney to play with them.  They jumped at the chance.  Ethan put on his black jacket and they both grabbed their new headlamps (from Grandma and Grandpa Oman) and ran out the door.  They came back about an hour later and were full of fun stories.

Ethan had figured out how to hide in the shadows and under rocks.  He would watch people walk by within 2 feet of him and never see him.  He also hid under a car, which I am not too sure of.

Courtney was just there to run around and have fun so they found her easily each time.  But she had a great time also.

When they came back they changed into pjs and got ready to wait for the ball to drop.  We watched Studio C for hours until it was time.  They were having a Studio C marathon on BYUTV but they were just playing the same episodes over and over.  So we put in Ethan's DVDs he got for Christmas and watched those.  They are pretty funny!

Unfortunately, we were flipping the stations and missed the ball drop, but we all made it to midnight.  Then Ethan went to his own room to sleep, Bryan and I set up the couch bed to sleep, and Courtney moved her mattress a bit so our bed would fit.  It was a fun night!

Horse Ride in Snow Canyon

Courtney had earned a horseback ride from her piano teacher and she was so excited!  They were supposed to go during Christmas break but her teacher missed some people.  Courtney reminded her teacher at the first piano lesson after the break and that's when her teacher realized that she had missed 3 girls.  So they set up a time to go one Friday afternoon.

Courtney was so excited and couldn't wait to get on a horse.  Patrice, her piano teacher, had just bought a smaller saddle that could be used by her grandkids and Courtney was the first one to use it.  This meant that she got to ride on her own horse all by herself!  Courtney was a bit nervous about that, but once Patrice got her all set up and walked her around for a minute, Courtney was fine and ready to go.

They rode through Snow Canyon and the pictures Patrice sent me are gorgeous!  Courtney loves riding horses!!

I don't know what is going on in this photo but Courtney blames it on the horse.

Frisbee Golf

On January 4th we were bored.  So we decided to find a frisbee golf course in St. George.  I hadn't ever seen one but with a quick Google search I was able to find that we do have some in St. George!  There is only one full course so we set off for that park.  We hadn't ever been to the park and were amazed to find it.

It was windy and really cold so we didn't do as well as we might have otherwise.  But we had a lot of fun walking around and trying to fight the wind for our shots.  In the very least, it was great to get out with the family.  Ethan decided he loves being outside and wants a big house like those near the park.  Courtney decided that she isn't any good at frisbee golf and hates the wind.

Hopefully we can get them to go out again sometime!

Red Lobster Heaven

Ethan loves, loves, loves, Red Lobster!  He got a $25 gift card to Red Lobster in his stocking.  Apparently Santa Claus knows how much he loves it too!  But after a few days, the gift card was calling Ethan's name.  He just couldn't resist and began begging to have us take him out so he could use it.  So we did.

It was a good thing that Ethan got the gift card too because he has expensive fish tastes.  He ordered the lobster tail/shrimp platter with wild rice and cooked vegetables.  And he ate the entire thing!!  Yup, he ate it all and loved every minute of it.  Of course, he didn't eat the next day, but he was happy.

Ethan told us that he is so sorry for anyone who has a fish allergy because they are missing out on the best things in life.  He's hilarious!  His gift card didn't quite cover his meal and drink but we let it slide.

If you ever want to see a happy Ethan, just take him to get seafood.

The Park

The kids were pretty restless in the days after Christmas so we decided to take them to the park to play with our new toys.  Lisa and Mike had given us the game of bocce so we decided to try and figure out how to play it.  We took Brennon with us so Ethan would have someone to hang out with too.

It wasn't a hard game to set up and we played boys against girls with Bryan being the official.  It was a great game and we had a lot of fun.

When we finished playing that game, we pulled out the frisbees and played "Keep Away" for a while.  We were having a lot of fun playing that but Courtney was having a rough time catching the frisbee.  So the boys played that and she set herself up to play soccer.

Bryan gave her a soccer set that has a belt with an elastic rope on it attached to a net.  She puts the belt on and then puts a soccer ball in the net.  When she kicks the ball, it goes until the elastic runs out and then it comes back to her.  She uses it to practice her kicking without having to chase the ball around.  Courtney had a lot of fun playing with that until she wanted others to play with her.

The set also came with a spike that you put in the ground and then when you kick the ball, it comes back to you.  So we set that up near a goal in the park and played a quick game of goal kicking.

It was a great day in the park!
