Piano Recital

Last Tuesday was a crazy day!!  Courtney had Pizazz from 5:30 to 7:00.  Courtney had a piano recital from 6:00 to 7:00. Ethan had merit badge camps from 7:00 to 9:00 (although it ends up being more like 9:30).

I fed the kids, dropped Courtney off at dance, ran home, grabbed Ethan, picked Courtney up from dance at 6:30, she changed her clothes in the backseat of the fan, drove quickly to the piano recital, she played her song, I left to take Ethan to his class, I went back to pick Courtney up, and then I drove home.  Bryan went back at 9:00 to pick up Ethan but the teacher kept going....and going....and going...until about 9:30.

Anyway, here is the video of her song.

I missed the first bit because I wasn't ready yet.  Courtney did a great job!!

Piano Evaluation

Courtney had her Spring piano evaluation today. She was pretty nervous but had been working on her song for a couple of months. She did a great job. The evaluator have her a superior rating. Courtney was pretty happy.

Happy Valentines Day

We have a fun tradition for Valentines Day. Bryan and I write a reason we love the kids on paper hearts and put them on the kid's doors at night. Sometimes we leave a treat too.

Ethan loved it so much that he didn't take his hearts off the door last year. So I had to use a dark red paper to tell the difference. It's been fun!

Courtney put one on our door:

Eye Doctor

Courtney had her yearly eye exam this morning.  It was a bit crazy because Ethan's play began late and so Courtney and I had to sneak out right before it finished so we could drive across town to get the eye doctor on time.  I don't know why I bothered.  We were 5 minutes late and had to wait for an hour before they called us back.  But the doctor examined Courtney's eyes and said that her crossing is getting better so her muscles are starting to get stronger.  She still has bifocals but will probably be able to get rid of those when she is about 10 years old.  She was pretty happy about that.  And he said that she may be able to get out of her glasses altogether when she is about 14.  I am not betting on this but she was pretty excited.

The doctor stressed to her that she has to wear her glasses all the time so one eye isn't more dominant than the other.  She was a bit freaked out by his serious talk with her so I hope she will be more diligent.

Bryan got a lot of the blame for any time she doesn't wear her glasses.  She told the doctor: "On Sundays my mom has meetings and my dad never reminds me to wear my glasses to Church so I forget." and "We went on a 2 week vacation and my dad didn't remind me to get my glasses so I didn't wear them while we were gone."  I had to laugh.  Apparently it's Bryan's job to make sure Courtney remembers to wear her glasses.  I was very happy that for once, I wasn't the one to blame! hahaha!

Courtney's Performance

This is the video from Courtney's Pizazz performance on Tuesday night at Dixie State University.

She is the blonde on the right side, usually on the end of the back row.  She is in pink.

Ethan's Play

It is the end of the trimester which means that Ethan is one happy kid. This trimester has taken his way out of his comfort zone but it has been great for him. And although he will tell you that he can't wait to get back into PE again, he has been singing a lot more than he was before and his self confidence has been higher than before.

He has a choir concert last week to show off his trimester choir skills and he had a play performance this week to show off his drama skills. He was really nervous but did a great job.  It was a modern telling of Greek mythology with an Olympiad twist. It was really funny!
Here was his part.

We almost weren't allowed to go and watch.  Ethan was so nervous that he told me on Thursday night that he would rather not have us there.  I told him we were fine with that but by Friday morning he had changed his mind and we were able to go.  Luckily, it was at 7:55 in the morning so Courtney was able to go also.

Crazy Night

Courtney had a dance performance at Dixie State. We had to rush after she got home from school to get ready. Then we took off for Dixie.

Courtney is the pink one in the middle with her back to the camera.
After she danced and changed we clothes we bought dinner and watched the girls game until it was time to take Ethan to a merit badge camp at the college. Bryan stayed at the game while I took Courtney home to bed. Bryan will pick Ethan up after his camp at 9 pm.

My Reward

This is my reward for having meetings at 7:30 am on Sunday.
Not a bad view of the sunrise. Everyone sleeping in missed it!

Lego Movie

Ethan really, really, really wanted to see the new Lego movie. The kids had an early out day on Monday (teacher training) so we decided to go to the movie. The only time that would work for us was 2:20 and it was in 3D but the kids loved it!

I had a coupon for a free drink so Ethan got that one and then I bought Courtney a kids popcorn deal.

They really liked the movie and we were out in time for Courtney's piano lesson! Great early out activity.

Courtney's Choir Concert

Courtney had a choir concert last night at Dixie State University.  It was a combined concert with the Cache Valley Children's Choir from Logan and the Lava Ridge Intermediate School 6th Grade Honors Choir.  Since the Cache Valley Choir had just come in from Logan all the kids had to be there early so they could rehearse before the concert began.  We dropped Courtney off at 6:20 and then went and ran some errands.  When we got back at about 6:35, the place was PACKED!  We were lucky to find 3 seats together and my parents had to sit on the row behind us.

They did a great job.  Here are the videos of the songs that Courtney was involved in.  Courtney is on the front row just to the left of the girl with white sleeves.  Courtney is closer to the director than to the right side.  I hope you can find her.

O Music (this is all the choirs combined):
Circle 'Round the Moon:
We Will:
Hand Me Down My Silver Trumpet (combined with all the choirs):

It was a very good concert and it wasn't too long, although the group from Logan sang about 7 songs.

Lava Ridge Choir Concert

It's the end of the trimester so Ethan's choir teacher had a concert for the parents.  It was during school time so she did one in the morning and then did it again in the afternoon.  So Ethan got to skip Math class, but apparently they didn't excuse him because both Bryan and I got text messages saying that Ethan had an unexcused absence.  The school even called our home phone and my cell phone to make sure I knew.

Bryan, my parents and I went to the concert in the morning but my phone was being dumb and wouldn't video tape very much.  So I grabbed out old video camera and went back in the afternoon to tape it.

We were a bit concerned when all the kids got in their places because Ethan looks SO SHORT!  He seems really tall amongst the kids in our neighborhood but then to see him with all his peers, he was really short.  Then we realized that the first 2 rows were the 6th graders and the last 2 rows were the 7th graders.  So he was surrounded by 7th graders.  So he is still pretty tall amongst the 6th graders.  That made me feel better.

The concert was a medley of songs through the ages.  It was originally written for high school level singers and has 32 songs in it.  So it was about 30 minutes long!  But they did a great job in just the few short months they had to learn it all.  The teacher had a slide show going in the back that had photos of the kids in it.  It was fun to see Ethan goofing off with his friends.

Here are the videos of the concert.  Sorry if they are a bit grainy.  I have marked the videos that have Ethan's favorite songs in them.  For some reason, these kids really liked singing BonJovi songs!

Intro to "Rockin' America":
Rock Around the Clock, Hound Dog, Tutti Fruitti (which made them laugh) and Puppy Love:
Land of a Thousand Dances:
Revolution, Magic Carpet Ride, Good Vibrations, I feel the Earth Move, I am Woman (really hilarious to watch the boys sing this one, it starts at 3:05), Your Mama Don't Dance:
Dust in the Wind:
Higher Love, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Good Lovin':
Uptown Girl, Since U Been Gone:
Every Breath You Take (which Ethan calls the "Stalker Song"), You Give Love a Bad Name (this was their favorite song and you can tell by the way they sing it):
I love Rock 'n' Roll, We Will Rock You, Everything I Do I Do it For You:
Smart Me Up, Smells Like Teen Spirit (yes, my son sang a Nirvana song):
It's My Life, Drift Away:
We Got the Bear, All I Wanna Do:
Twist and Shout, Joy to the World:
Hey Ya!, Rock and Roll All Night (this video is from my phone because the camera ran out of memory):

I hope you enjoyed the concert!!
