9th Ward Nativity

Our ward had our annual Primary Nativity last night. Ethan sang a song with some boys from his class and I have attached a clip of it. Courtney sang the "Asleep, asleep" echo of a song with her class but we didn't get it on tape. It was a cute Nativity though and Ethan was so proud that he sang his song without needing the words.

Cute Kids

We had pictures taken with my family at Thanksgiving time and we just got them. So I scanned a few to have on the computer and thought I would post them. Ethan had this thing with wanting to pose while lying on his belly. So we let him and they turned out really cute. (Just a side note: When Ethan was a baby I tried and tried to get a photo with him on his belly but he would scream and cry the entire time, so I don't have one. Now that he is older, that's the only way he wants to pose. Go figure!)

Ward Christmas Party

Can I just say that the people who put together our Ward Christmas party are insane?!?! They did an awesome job transforming the Stake Center into the North Pole for breakfast and tit was tons of fun...and I'm glad I wasn't one of them because it was also a TON of work. But I loved the end product.

They had a kids area set up that was manned by the Young Women. We just had to send our kids in there and they entertained them, fed them and even had a visit from Santa...all while the parents were eating and chatting amongst themselves. It was awesome. I told the kids I missed them...for a second, then I kept on enjoying myself. Hahaha

They had a few people do entertainment (songs, poems, etc.) but it wasn't a huge big deal and it only lasted an hour. Not bad for a Ward party. The only complaint I heard was that it started at 9 in the morning and people didn't want to be up that early on a Saturday. For our part, we wished it started earlier because the kids are up and ready to go at 6:30 each morning! ;) But it really was a lot of fun.

Gingerbread...Graham Cracker...Houses

Courtney's class decorated gingerbread houses today and it was hilarious. I went in yesterday to help glue the graham crackers to some milk cartons so they would be ready to decorate. Then today I showed up in time to help get things ready for the kids while they were at recess. It was so fun watching them put on candy on the house and one candy in the mouth. The frosting was all over the place and Courtney put more frosting in her mouth than she did on her house! But they had great fun and she did a great job.

Home Depot Field Trip

Last Wednesday, Ethan's class went to Home Depot to learn about pulleys, friction, inventory and merchandise. I got to go along and it was tons of fun. They were given a kit and were able to build a spice rack, which Ethan loved doing. Then they were shown around the place and got to go in back and see how a fork lift works. His class is composed of 7 girls and 15 boys, so you can imagine the kinds of questions they asked (mostly the questions dealt with blowing things up). I thought it was curious that most of the parents who showed up for this field trip were men!

Run Run Reindeer

We participated in the 1 mile Run Run Reindeer run this morning in Ivins. It was tons of fun. I registered for the 5K but ended up doing the 1 mile run with Courtney. But I still got a shirt...which is the smallest large I have ever seen in my life (I think it's a youth large shirt because it fits Ethan perfectly).

Anyway, the packet pick up started at 7:30 this morning but we didn't go up until around 8:30. I got my number, shirt, reindeer antlers for all of us and hot chocolate and then we dropped off toys for the Toys For Tots (that was the reason for the race and the registration fee for the 1 mile run). While we waited for the 9 a.m. start to the run, we listened to the Beach Boy's Christmas album that was playing for our entertainment and had more hot chocolate. It was pretty cold (in the high 30s or low 40s, I think), so we had on coats and hats.

Then a very skinny and in shape Santa showed up for the kids to race. He told them he has been training all year. It was cute. Then we got on the starting line, got ready, Santa got a head start, and then we took off. There were only 280 people signed up for the 1 mile run, 5K and 10K races, so there weren't too many people. They had about 20 kids that ran but it was lots of fun.

Ethan beat his last run time and came in 3rd or 4th. Bryan was right behind him. Courtney and I came in around 11 minutes, which wasn't bad because we had to stop twice (once to take off her jacket and once to take off her hat and adjust the antlers). As we were about 2 blocks from the finish line Courtney began to slow down and told me that she "just can't go on anymore." Santa was right behind us and came up to tell her that he was glad she stopped because he needed a break too. She walked by him for about 1/2 a block then I asked her if she was ready. She nodded and took off at a sprint for the finish line while Santa yelled, "Hey, you tricked me, get back here" behind us. She thought she was so tricky!

Bryan took off for a meeting with the youth while we stuck around for a few more minute and the kids got donuts. Then a reporter from the newspaper came up to interview Ethan and Courtney about the race. They were thrilled and can't wait to get the newspaper tomorrow to see if they are quoted.

It was a fun morning and a good start to the Christmas holiday. It can now be Christmas.

Singing at the Dickens Festival

The Cougar Choir from Ethan's elementary school was invited to sing at the Dickens Festival today. I was asked to go to help out with "crowd control" and Courtney came with us. They did a great job and Ethan had fun singing.

He was kind of tired afterward:

This is a song called "Wassail" and Ethan is on the left hand side, second row. I hope you can find him!
