Sole Hope Fun Run

The Snow Canyon Middle School honors geography and honors language arts classes get together every year to do a global service project.  Ethan is in both classes so he got a double dose.  The service project that was chosen was for the Sole Hope foundation (Sole Hope website).  They help people in Uganda fight jiggers by provided education and shoes made of jeans and milk jugs.  The kids were split in groups of 5 and they were given the option of putting together a fundraising project to try and raise money to give to the Foundation.

Ethan's group came up with the idea of a fun run and, since I have organized fun runs before, they asked me for help.  I sat down with Ethan and his friend and went over what they needed to do.  The kids had 3 weeks to do their fun raiser and it was amazing the response they got.  EVERYTHING was donated and they had great prizes for the raffle.  And they ended up raising $2,100 (at last count) to give to the Foundation.  It blew them away.  Each group was given the goal of $100-200 to earn and they blew that out of the water.  The teachers are now going to try and make it a yearly event because it did so well.  The one teacher told me she didn't want them to do it at all because it wasn't going to make any money.  She obviously hadn't been to a fun run in St. George before!
